Overview & Mission
The Henri-Mondor University Cancer Institute (IUC) is the cancer center of the Henri-Mondor University Hospital Group (GHU), part of the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP). It was established in partnership with the University of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) to coordinate all cancer-related activities within the GHU.
The Institute brings together medical, scientific, and academic expertise to offer a coherent and innovative strategy in the fields of care, research, and education. It is committed to a culture of excellence with the goal of obtaining the European “Comprehensive Cancer Center” certification issued by the Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI).
Each year, nearly 6,500 cancer patients are treated within the GHU, resulting in more than 43,000 hospital stays, including 17,000 chemotherapy sessions. A large number of clinical trials are also underway, illustrating the Institute’s commitment to an integrated care-research approach.
The Henri-Mondor University Hospital (IUC) is based at the sites of the Henri-Mondor University Hospital Group (GHU) involved in cancer care.
It is structured around two main centers:
- The Henri-Mondor site (Créteil): a university hospital center specializing in internal medicine, surgery, and obstetrics, working closely with the UPEC. It concentrates the bulk of specialized clinical activity and cancer research.
- The Albert-Chenevier site (Créteil): a key facility for Medical and Rehabilitation Care (SMR) in oncology and hematology and the Integrated Pain and Palliative Care Unit (UDSPI), which plays an essential role in the patient’s overall care pathway.
The Henri-Mondor University Cancer Institute brings together healthcare, research, and education professionals around a common goal: to improve the quality and coordination of cancer care by integrating scientific and technological advances throughout the patient journey.
Care
The Institute organizes cancer care pathways, from prevention and screening through post-cancer care and palliative care. It encourages access to therapeutic innovation, in conjunction with clinical trials, and promotes multidisciplinary practices and new professions in oncology.
Research
The Henri-Mondor Cancer Institute supports cancer research in all its dimensions—basic, translational, clinical, medical, and paramedical. It relies in particular on the Mondor Institute (IM), a leading Inserm unit, as well as on recognized academic and hospital facilities in the region. It fosters scientific and industrial partnerships within a framework of open innovation.
Education
The Institute collaborates with UPEC to train healthcare students, physicians, pharmacists, and caregivers. It also develops continuing education programs for professionals involved in cancer care and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and the dissemination of knowledge.
